The latest Sports Roundup from Mr Lyons.
We have loved seeing the pupils back in action following the Christmas break – they have really hit the ground running with a fantastically busy start to the term.
Before term even started our girls were working hard on their first netball pre-season. The seniors had a great day on the Sunday enjoying spending time together and connecting as a squad – staying over in the boarding houses too. The following morning after an early team run in Warminster, the seniors were amazing at helping to coach the younger age groups in their pre-season sessions. Mrs Walsh Jones wants to challenge our senior girls to be role models and to inspire their younger peers – they have certainly made a great start to that!
On Tuesday last week the 1st XI football played their long-awaited Society of Heads Cup Game with Bournemouth Collegiate School. It was the best game I have seen our boys play thus far; however, they went down 2-1 to a late goal from Bournemouth.
Thursday saw our 1st and U15 XI hockey both handed challenging away draws in the national cup. The boys made promising starts to their seasons, but both ended their games 0-4.
On Saturday our successful qualifiers from the first round travelled to Chippenham to represent West Wilts int the area Cross country. Congratulations to Adie G, Tom C-B, Rosie C-B and Chiara G who will all represent Wiltshire at the Regional finals in a few weeks. We also had competitive hockey and netball block fixtures with Leweston on a chilly but beautiful day.
On Sunday, our senior rugby sevens squad played their first competition of the season. They had an impressive first outing, topping their group with three wins before a narrow one score loss in the final. Mr Ball has arranged several competitions this term for the boys, culminating with a visit to the Roslyn Park national sevens in the final week of term.
This week we have enjoyed some brilliant mid-week netball matches with Dauntsey’s and as I write I am crossing my fingers that today’s 1st and U16 hockey cup fixtures do not fall victim to the bitter weather.
This coming Saturday we look forward to fixtures with Clayesmore, Clifton High and Millfield and rugby sevens for our U14 squad on Sunday at Wells Cathedral. Please remember to follow us on Instagram to stay right up to date with all our sporting action. I do hope to see you at fixtures this weekend – wrap up warm!
